Dr. Abdullah Alshawaf is currently a Senior Lecturer of Physiology in the College of Medicine at Alfaisal University. Supported by King Abdullah Scholarship program. Dr. Alshawaf completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Sydney followed by completion of his PhD studies in the laboratory of A/Prof Mirella Dottori in the Centre for Neural Engineering at the University of Melbourne. The major focus of his research are to study human pluripotent stem cells and their differentiation to specific lineages of the central and peripheral nervous system, to establish in vitro human cellular models of neurodevelopment diseases and to develop potential stem cell based therapies. Dr. Alshawaf’s ongoing research and collaborations include projects aimed at using human pluripotent stem cells to interrogate Autism spectrum disorder and also optimization of human stem cell based therapies for glioblastoma.
